Hunan new energy leader Zhongwei New Materials has partnered with the Moroccan local fund AL MADA to build Africa's first large-scale new energy battery material base. The first phase, with an annual production capacity of 40,000 tons of nickel-based cathode materials, has already been put into operation. The long-term total capacity is planned to reach 70GWh. Relying on Morocco's strategic location as a gateway to North Africa and its rich phosphate mineral resources, the products will supply new energy vehicle manufacturers in North Africa, Europe, and North America, establishing a new energy profit model of 'African production and global distribution'. Release date: 2026-06-10 (Accompanied by the China-Africa Morocco Special Session)
R&D and production of cathode precursor materials for new energy batteries; manufacturing of high-performance nickel-based new energy materials; layout of overseas production capacity for new energy materials; global supply and supporting services for battery materials.
The overall project plan is implemented in three phases, with the annual production capacity eventually supporting the battery material needs of nearly one million electric vehicles. It is the core representative of Hunan's new energy industry chain (grouping together to go overseas) to Africa, deeply aligning with Morocco's energy transition and battery industry chain layout needs.
